The lights upon the horizon,
Like stars along a line,
Over the waves they hover
Like diamonds how they shine.

Within the orbs they reflect
Upon the countenance they glow;
Seemingly close, yet so far away,
That much, I surely know

An outstretched arm toward them
Falls short by many a mile
A longing for them burns,
And burns, and burns for a while

To stand upon the shore
And dream of the next frontier
Like a viking stands the prow
Or Galileo upon a pier

To dream of a world across
The wide and vast unknown,
Like the captain of a starship
To the journey sets the tone

Pick a star and navigate
To travel until dawn;
An odyssey of the mind
A moment, then its gone.

Arouse me not from slumber
Let my fantasy reign supreme
A wraith of what could be
Let me dream, let me dream, let me dream.
