Amarillo

They walked together, hand in hand
upon a desert highway
They would glance sometimes at each other
In a very knowing way.

The wind would blow her hair and dress
So that they’d stream behind
He’d squint his eyes to see ahead
Seeking as the road would wind

They walked for miles, along the road
Under amarillo skies
Yet no words were spoken, not one
Except within their eyes.

Returning whence upon they came,
Winds now at their backs
Walking still, hand in hand,
Now in the other’s tracks

Seeking not the comfort of mere words,
But true understanding
To be within another’s thoughts
In a world almost enchanting

The amarillo sky pervades
Every step they take
Together they leave the desert road,
Sands from their feet they shake.
